19 year old Euan Gillham from Bridge of Weir, was top Brit in the junior race at the World Mountain Running Championships in Bulgaria last Sunday. Euan, currently a student at Edinburgh University, already a GB international at cross country, finished 13th overall, a fantastic effort in only his 2nd major hill race.
It was a very busy weekend for Kilbarchan road runners with athletes competing in various parts of the country.
The Stirling 10K on Sunday, was also a Scottish Championship event and Gemma Rankin was 6th in the women’s race, time 35.36, while Alisha Sivell won the girls 2K race in 7.19.
Also on Sunday, there was big local interest in the Kilmacolm Festival of Running and Iona Miller, just 17 and in her first 10K, finished 2nd in the Women’s race, time 40.46. In the 3K races, Rachel Muir won the under 13 girl’s race from Kilbarchan club mates Louise Hastie and Ola Zurakowska and for the boys Jack Patton was 1st and Lewis Hannigan 2nd. Overall for the girls, Leona Murray won ahead of Eilidh Gibson and Holly Thompson and Craig Kennedy was 3rd for the boys.
Also on Sunday, the Round Cumbrae Millport 10mile Road Race, attracted a big entry. It was a 2-3-4 for Kilbarchan athletes in the Women’s race with Christina Rankin 2nd 63.31, Elspeth Curran 3rd and Jennifer Rooney 4th while Robin Scott won the M70 age category, time 75.16.
The various 5K parkruns staged all over the country on Saturday mornings including several around the Glasgow area, are attracting huge entries and last Saturday at Linwood, Andrew MacAngus won in 17.02 from over 100 competitors.
Kilbarchan Athletic Club finished their track season with their Club Championships at Linwood on Saturday. Results on the Kilbarchan AAC website.
