Callum Hawkins repeated his 2013 success at the Paisley 10K Road Race at the weekend, coming home a clear winner in 29 minutes 24 seconds, over 400 metres ahead of Shettleston Harrier Kamil Sieracki with Callum’s Kilbarchan clubmate Callum Matthews winning the under 20 mens category, 15th overall.
Kilbarchan’s Gemma Rankin repeated her 2014 success, winning the Ladies race in 35 minutes 36 seconds, with Garscube Harrier Lesley Chisholm in 2nd place.
David McNair, who earlier in the week had won the prestigious Derek McLean Memorial 800 Trophy, won the Boys 3K in 8 minutes 52 seconds ahead of Kilbarchan clubmate Craig Kennedy with Eilidh Gibson winning the Girls event in 9.48, just ahead of Alisha Sivell, both Kilbarchan athletes.
As well as in the Paisley 10K, Kilbarchan members had one of their busiest weekends of the summer, with athletes competing in the Scottish Mens League and in the Womens League as well as at the Scottish Junior Hill Race trials at Aberfoyle where Laura Stark won the Girls race in 19 minutes 23 seconds, with Rona Tytler in 4th place. Laura will now lead the Scottish team at the Junior Home International Hill Race Championships in Wales on 19th September and Rona also hopes to gain selection. Also at Aberfoyle, Leona Murray was 3rd in the under 15 girls race.
Some athletes travelled to Bedford to compete in the English Age Group Championships where notably, Heather Fawcett broke the club under 17s Hammer record with a 48.97metres throw and Kerry MacAngus was 8th the final of the under 17 girls 800metres.
