Kilmarnock was the venue for the West District Championships last weekend and Kilbarchan Athletic Club had a good turnout of athletes, with some impressive results.
Jack Lochans won the High Jump clearing 2.00metres in difficult windy conditions and French student Remi Caudoux was a good winner of the Javelin with a 53.84m throw. On the track, coming back from injury, Craig Stewart was 2nd in the 800m (1.58.83) and there was a 2, 3 in the 1500m with Scott MacAulay (4.07.10) closely followed home by Russell Mountford. Martin Lipton, still chasing a Commonwealth Games spot, showed good form with 2nd place in the 400m Hurdles in 52.51seconds and David Kerr was a good 3rd in the 200m, time 23.20s.
For the under 20s, Mia Shepherd won the womens Hammer (36.73m) and sprint hurdles and Gavin McArdle was 2nd in the 800m with a personal best, 1.56.01, while Billy Russell earned Silver in the Hammer with a PB 33.60m.
Jemma Reekie looked a class act winning the under 17 girls 800m in 2.13.61 with Laura Stark 2nd (2.18.58 )and also in that age group.

Other good performances in the under 17s age group from Victoria Cleer, 3rd in the sprint hurdles (12.23s) and Emma Devine 3rd in the 100m (13.37s) while in the boys 1500m, Euan Trout was 2nd (4.18.6) and Conor Thomson 3rd (4.21.40).
For the under 15s, Andrew Costello was on top form winning the Hammer with a club record throw of 48.43m and there were also good performances and medals for Iona Cleer 2nd in the Long Jump (4.87m) and Michael Cairns 3rd in the sprint Hurdles (12.65s).
Kirsty Costello was a star in the under 13 throws, winning the Hammer (31.66m) and the Javelin (23.40m) while Eilidh Gibson impressed in the under 13 girls 800m, leading from the start to win in 2.27.69 and there were also well earned medals won by Adam Cleer 3rd in the Sprint Hurdles (15.68s), Jack Patton 3rd in the 1500m (5.02.47).
Elsewhere, Hayley Haining and Derek Hawkins had useful workouts in their Commonwealth Marathon preparationd, running in Edinburgh 10K where Derek finished 2nd in the 10K, time 31mins 13 seconds and Hayley 3rd in the Womens ½ marathon in 79.51.
The ultra runners were also in action at the weekend showing remarkable endurance and Kilbarchan’s John Kynaston put in a terrific performance competing in the Hardmoors 110mile race, where he finished 11th in 27 hours 58 minutes 10 seconds.
