It was a bitterly cold day at Irvine last Saturday for the West Dist Cross Country Championships staged over Irvine Moor and Kilbarchan Athletic Club had some fine results.
Elspeth Curran continued the good form she has shown recently with a fine run for 2nd place in the Womens 8K race, time 24 minutes 59 seconds and the under 15 boys race was won by Jack Patton, time 13.51, just 4 seconds ahead of teammate Lewis Hannigan. Other individual medallists included Holly Thomson under 20 women 3rd, Cameron Wright under 17 boys 3rd and Donald Petrie who was 2nd in the M60 category in the Mens race.
The Kilbarchan club had a number of successes in the team competitions, particularly the under 15 boys who won team Gold with Jack Patton and Lewis Hannigan well supported by Lewis Barclay 9th. There were Silver team medals for the under 20 Mens team of Josh Hendry, Robert Ferguson and Scott McLardie. Bronze team medals were awarded to the under 13 girls Abbie Alemu, Chloe Cameron and Evie Livingston; also for the under 15 girls team Alisha Sivell, Aurelia Tiffoney, Louise Hastie; for the under 17 girls team of Laine Alemu, Leona Murray, Libby Sutherland; and to the under 17 Mens team of Cameron Wright, Craig Kennedy and David McNair ..
Last week at the Scottish Athletics Annual Awards ceremony, Jemma Reekie , who has been outstanding in Track and Cross Country events this year, including winning the European under 1500m title, was announced as the Scottish Young Athlete of the Year.
Three Kilbarchan members ran in the British & Irish Masters Cross Country International Race in Gransha Park, in the north of the City of Derry on Saturday.
The 5 mile course was flat and fast with a few twists and turns and some sections of soft going.
Robert Quinn and Robert McCulloch both ran in the M50 age class with Robert Quinn just missing out on a medal finishing 4th, and Robert McCulloch 23rd.
Donald Petrie ran in the M60 age class finishing 11th and won a silver medal in the team race.
