Callum Hawkins confirmed his stature as a top world class performer on Sunday, when he finished 4th in the World Marathon Championships round the thronged streets of London. The 25 year old from Elderslie, cheered on by the huge crowds, maintained his pace, finishing strongly and just missing a medal position, time 2 hours 10 minutes 17 seconds, a personal best and the best by a British athlete in the World marathon event for 20 years.
Elsewhere at the weekend, 2 of Scotland rising stars, fellow Kilbarchan Athletic Club members were representing Scotland in the Celtic Games International in Dublin.
Kirsty Costello, also from Elderslie, set a Scottish age group record of 57.83m to finish in 2nd place in the Hammer competition and David McNair from Paisley and competing in the 800 metres also won Silver, breaking the 2 minute barrier, his time 1.58.85.
