Jemma Reekie continued her emergence as one of Britains stars of the future at the weekend. Jemma was competing in the under 20s British Championships at Bedford, which were also the trials for the European Athletics under 20s Championships and she competed a remarkable double, against Britain’s best, winning both the 1500m and 3000m events.
On Saturday Jemma won the 1500m in a close finish, time 4:18.38. Then on Sunday, Jemma won the 3000m breaking clear to win by 25 metres in 9:37.22, making it a memorable weekend.
Locally, Callum Hawkins won the Brian Goodwin 10K at Bellahouston, time 29.12, and it was a double for the Kilbarchan club with Elspeth Curran winning the Womens race, time 36.25..
The Mens 10K was also staged in Glasgow at the weekend and there were top performances by two of Kilbarchan’s more senior athletes, Robert McCulloch, who won the over 50s award in 36.21 and by Donald Petrie who was first in the over 55s category, time 37.36.
