Men’s League Match 3 Report

MEN’S LEAGUE MATCH 3 Report
A sunny, wet, blustery day at Kilmarnock – wind speeds ranging from +3 to -6 on the finishing straight! Great effort by Kilbarchan, 4th on the day despite a shortage of throwers, and now up to joint second in the league for 2015.

Highlights and PBs were numerous. Perhaps the top performance was Jack Lochans‘ 2.12m PB (and club record) in the high jump, raising Jack to 4th in Scotland and 12th in the UK rankings. This from the man who said he had a sore ankle and might just take one jump!

Sam Davies & Callum Matthews

Sam Davies and Callum Matthews put on a fine show in the 1500m, with Sam running a huge 7 second PB to break 4 minutes for the first time, and Callum finished 2nd in the B race.Blair Crawford set a new PB of 11.04 in the 100m for 3rd, and then was a strong second place in the 200m.

Anthony Young on his club debut was a comfortable winner in the 400m and second in the 200m B race.

In the 800m the young guys did very well, with Aidan Comerford and Cameron Dickson both running personal bests.

Andrew Murphy was an excellent second in the 110m hurdles.

Euan Gillham & Stephen Trainer

In the 5000m there was a very impressive and mature performance from Euan Gillham and Stephen Trainer. Euan ran a big PB, going under 15 minutes, and Stephen as 2nd in the B string.

In the field, we were sadly depleted of our 5 top throwers, and despite worthy efforts from Shane Hands and Andrew Murphy, we lost about 50 points in the throws compared to what we might expect. Jumps were better, with Jack’s stellar HJ performance winning the A string and Blair winning the B string. In the long jump Andrew Murphy and young Praise Olatoke turned in decent performances, as did Praise in the triple jump. Andrew Murphy also finished a fine 2nd in the pole vault.

Finally both relay squads performed well and finished 4th in their races.

So a good day for those who competed, but we missed a few field eventers, and if we are to consolidate league second place we will hope to see them at Meadowbank on Sunday 30th August.
