Kilbarchan athletes have been competing at a wide variety of venues over the last week or so, with some top results.
Derek Hawkins continued his preparations for the Commonwealth Marathon by competing in a half marathon race in the Czech Republic on Saturday. In very warm conditions, Derek was close to his best, finishing eighth, top European, in a time of 65 minutes 18 seconds, which tops the Scottish rankings for 2014.
Also last weekend, the British Masters Pentathlon Championships were staged in Oxford and Lindsay Scott from Paisley, won the Silver medal in the M 75 category, scoring 2876 points, which puts him 4th on the British all time list for athletes aged 75 and over. Top performance was in the Long Jump, clearing 3.93metres, a Scottish M75 record.
Earlier, 17 year old Gavin McArdle smashed his best for 1500metres at the British Milers Club meeting at Sportcity, time 3:52.44.
