Jemma Reekie

Jemma Reekie is now on  a well earned rest after representing GB in the 1500m at European Indoor Championships at the Emirates in Glasgow.

Jemma, who joined the Club as an 11 year old, has been an ever improving athlete, always a positive attitude and commitment, had a good winter and ensured her GB selection when she won the British Indoor Championships 1500m in Birmingham in February, time 4.17

At the Emirates, she just missed qualifying for the European final but still ran an Indoor PB in her heat, time 4.13.44 a fine performance.

Jemma now trains in a new group, a training partner of Laura Muir, though her earlier background includes being part of the Girls Endurance group, training at Linwood and Saturdays at Barshaw Park.

Thanks to our Officials

The club was well represented amongst the Scottish officials that supported the European Indoor Championships held last weekend at the Emirates Glasgow. Officials associated with the club were

Jason Pender, Margaret Ann MacLachlan, Christine Stoops, Pamela Ross, Magnus Ross. We also had Eleanor McNicol amongst the volunteers (possibly a few more).

Without the dedication of these officials, who are all volunteers we would not be able to hold events right from club championships to Olympic Games.

Thank you all!

Club Connect Relays – European Championships

The club had a very successful night on Friday 1st March – with 3 of our relay teams taking part in the National Relay Finals which were held in front of a big crowd at the Emirates Arena on the opening night of the European Indoor championships.

All teams run a 4x200m – U13 boys were first off coming in a fantastic silver medal position with a time of 1:56.02, beating the club record that has stood for over 10 years.

Next up we’re U13 girls in a tough field came in 5th in a time of 2:01.30, however they also just beat the old club record dating back from 2002!

Lastly the U17 put up a great fight to be just popped on the line coming in second to take the Silver medal in the time of 1:32.52, and once again beating the previous club record!

Congratulations to all athletes and big thanks to Team Managers Richard and Donna on the night along with Jason and Janice for team selection and organising and making arrangements for heats and finals.
