Great Edinburgh XC Report, Sat 9 Jan 2016
Kilbarchan Athletic Club were well represented at the International Cross Country event in Edinburgh last Saturday, competition also including Celtic Games as well as Scottish Inter-District Championships.
The Senior race included an International involving teams representing the USA and Europe, as well as a Great Britain and Northern Ireland select.
In the Senior race, Callum Hawkins made the pace for most of the 8K race, eventually finishing 4th, 2nd Brit behind Mo Farah who was outsprinted by American Garret Heath. Although disappointed to just miss an individual medal, it was still a fine effort by Callum and there was consolation in GB winning team Gold.
Also representing GB, was Euan Gillham, this time in the under 20s and Euan had a fine run, finishing 9th and 4th GB counter with GB finishing 2nd to Europe in the team event.
In the Celtic Games events, Scotland won the under 20 girls race with Laura Stark 3rd and Sarah Dempsey 8th, part of the winning team. In the under 17 boys race, Andrew MacAngus was 7th and helped the Scottish team to Bronze medals.
In the Inter-District Championships, there were more fine performances by Kilbarchan athletes.
For the boys, the West under 15s won Gold with David McNair winning Individual Bronze, support also from Craig Kennedy 4th and Michael Simson 6th while it was team Bronze for the under 13 boys with Jack Patton 9th.
For the under 13 girls, Alisha Sivell was 4th with the West team winning Gold and it was also Gold for the West under 15 girls with Leona Murray 9th overall.
The under 17s competitions were included with the Celtic competition and for the under 17 girls, Iona Miller as 14th and Rona Tytler 17th, helping the West to team Silver and for the boys, it was also team Silver helped by Sam McNair 12th and Conor Thomson 13th.
