The London Marathon last Sunday, made for a fantastic spectacle, with the fine weather enhancing the scenery together with the enthusiasm of the tens of thousands of runners, of all ages and abilities.
Many local runners were there and special credit must go to Robin Scott from Bridge of Weir. Robin, now 70, completed the course in a remarkable 3 hours 19 minutes 45 seconds, which made him 3rd in his age category and competing against some of the best in the world.
There were also good efforts from fellow Kilbarchan club athletes, with Norman Groves 3.25.28, Catherine Stewart 3.32.04 Michael Finlay 3.55.03 and William Mimnagh 5.02.11.
Kilbarchan Athletic Club also has a number of young athletes, representing Scotland in the mini marathon which preceded the main event.
Scottish Road race Champion Euan Gillham was 7th, top Scot for the under 17 boys while Laura Stark, 3rd in the Scottish event, was 15th and 2nd Scot for the under 15 girls, Also for the under 15 boys, Conor Thomson was 4th Scot and for the under 17 girls, Gwen Gillham was 6th Scot..
The various parkruns were staged throughout the country as usual last Saturday and notably, Noanie Heffron was first lady at Pollok Park, time 20.02 for the 5K course.
