Paisley 10K & Fun Run, Paisley, Sun 21 Aug 2022
Derek and Callum Hawkins took first and second place in the Paisley 10k Road Race.
Callum was first in the men’s race crossing the line in 30 minutes 15 seconds as Derek came second with a time of 30 minutes 28 seconds. In third place was Robbie Ferguson, with a time of 31 minutes 14 seconds.
Gemma Rankin took third place in the women’s race with a time of 38 minutes 48 seconds. Congratulations to all our runners who competed.
There were 1505 runners competing in the Paisley 10K Race and 1036 taking part in the Fun Run.
European Athletics Championships, Munich Germany, Sat 20 Aug 2022
It was afifth-place finish in the Women’s 800m final for Jemma Reekie. Jemma clocked 2:00.31 and had no regrets about her bid for glory after losing out in the heats at the Commonwealths before then taking on the 1500m.
“It’s been a long season, and tough, and I feel like all I have done since February when I had glandular fever is work so hard to get this season done, she said. I would have liked to have gone a lot better and I would have liked to medal today to finish off this season, but I have to take the positives.”

We had a few athletes running at the Miler’s Meet, with a 2nd place finish for Cameron Wright in the men’s 1500m with a time of 3:46.12. Event (D) 9th for Alistair Street U15 4:19.26; and in the W1500 (B) Event 4 Amy Teasdale 4th in the U17 4:38.25; and in Event (C) 8th place for Zara Redmond-U15 4:47.30.

One of our young hammer throwers Dawn Russell will be part of the Scotland team at the U20 Welsh International on Wednesday 17 August in Swansea. These events offer some of the best young athletes in Scotland an opportunity to gain valuable international experience at an early age.

It was a disappointing moment for Jemma Reekie as she finished fifth in the opening semi-final of the Women’s 800m at the World Champs. Jemma clocked 1:59.09 in her race with only the top two assured of progressing plus two further qualifiers.

Combined event newbies Emma Kelly and Eden Duff were entered in their first respective heptathlon and decathlon and successfully completed all events to win silver (2610 points) and gold (4178 points) in the senior age groups. The quality of the competition wasn’t the usual with club super stars Andrew Murphy and Matthew Chandler not present but there was good company from the under 20s who were competing in the same competition.
European Under 18 Championships, Jerusalem, Israel, 4-7 Jul 2022
Oliver Patton have been one of the youngest of any competitor in Jerusalem. In that context, reaching the 2000m steeplechase final looked a big ask but Oliver delivered on that with a strong run at 5:57.83 in his heat, and with a 15th finish in the final in a time of 6.09.25, well done to Oliver, his family and coach Robert Hawkins.

A strong run from Fraser Gilmour in the U20 race to help GB and NI to team golds. Fraser took a fine fifth place as the GB and NI U20 quartet won the team race.

Teams: Blackheath 580.5, Birchfield 542.5, Woodford Green 488, Glasgow Jaguars 421.5, Swansea 377.5, Bristol 317, Southampton 315, Cardiff 273. Glasgow Jaguars was unseeded and ranked 15th in the Premiership at the start of the season and after three fixtures currently lie in joint eighth.
As things stand, it looks like they will lose out on the A final by just 24 match points but will contest the B Finals at Bedford on August 20 feeling confident of a high place finish. Full report on scottishathletics web site

A second-place finish for our young team of the youth development league finishing with a total of 519.5 points.
Joshua Mungin was first in the U15B 800m in a time of 2:03.64. The U13 girls relay team shaved 2 seconds of the club record with a time of 56.58, well done.
