The Scottish Short Course Cross Country Championships were staged at a wet and muddy Bellahouston Park last Saturday and there were some fine performances by local Kilbarchan athletes.
The Kilbarchan boys were on form and Michael Simson led home the under 15 boys 2K race, winning in 6 minutes 6 seconds, just ahead of club mate Andrew MacAngus and Craig Kennedy in 5th ensured a convincing team victory for the Kilbarchan club.
There were also medals for Kilbarchan under 17 girls team with Iona Miller, Rebecca Craig and Kerry MacAngus, packing well to finished 8th, 9th and 10th to take Silver team position behind Giffnock North.
In the Men’s 4K race which had 350 starters. Edinburgh University student Euan Gillham was the top Kilbarchan athlete, having a fine run to finish 8th in 12.21, which was 2nd in the under 20s category. The Men’s team including Callum Matthews and Thomas McDonald, finished 7th.
The under 15 Kilbarchan girls tea of Eilidh Gibson, Leona Murray and Kim Crawford just missed medals finishing 4th,
This coming Saturday, the Renfrewshire County Cross Country Championships are at Tower Hill, Gourock. With the County including Inverclyde and Eastwood areas, as well as parts of south side Glasgow, some top quality competition is expected.
