Several hundred athletes, of all ages, competed in the West District Cross Country relay Championships at Kilmacolm last weekend and local runners, representing Kilbarchan Athletic Club had a successful day, with 2 wins and one second place in the 4 events.
The trio of Christina Rankin, Maica Rodriguez and Natalie Sharp were clear winners of the Senior Womens race in 42 minutes 35 seconds, remarkably the 5th consecutive year the Club has won this District title. And there was good back up from their B team of Sarah Dempsey, Elaine Eadie and Leanne Hamilton, which competed well to finish in 6th place.
The boys team of Jack Patton, Andrew MacAngus and Euan Trout also had a fine victory, finishing ahead of over 50 competing teams, their time 24.35. The boys B team of Niall MacLean, Cameron Corrigan and Scott McLardie produced a fine effort to finish 4th and remarkably, the club also filled 9th place with a team of Cameron Hunter, Craig Kennedy and Aidan Comerford.
The Kilbarchan girls team of Eilidh Gibson, Rona Tytler and Laura Stark, also performed well, just missing Gold in finishing 2nd to Giffnock North AC, time 27.28. The Kilbarchan C team were close to Bronze medals in 4th place, team of Alisha Sivell, Katie McGinn and Kerry MacAngus and like the boys, girls also 3 teams in the top 9 out of over 50 starting teams, the girls B team of Leona Murray, Kim Crawford and Jemma Reekie, in 9th place.
Inverclyde won the Mens race ahead of Shettleston Harriers and Giffnock North with Kilbarchan in 4th place with a quartet of Robert Quinn, Gavin McArdle, Euan Gillham and Callum Matthews.
This weekend, the Renfrewshire Cross Country relays are being staged in Bellahouston Park, the historical county including areas of Inverclyde, East Renfrewshire and parts of Glasgow south side.
