Callum Hawkins celebrated his selection for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team with an outstanding 6th place in the International Cross Country event in Edinbirgh.
The 21 year old from Elderslie, had already run for GB under 23s at the European Championships in December but this was his first major GB senior selection and 6th and 2nd Brit was a big step forward towards his ambition of achieving selection for the Commonwealth Games later in the summer.
Kilbarchan Athletic Club also had several representatives in the West team for the associated Interdistrict competition. In the Senior Womens race, Christina Rankin was in good form, finishing top West runner, in 6th place and there was a fine run by Euan Gillham, 2nd in the under 17 boys event.
Other top performers included Laura Stark, 4th in the under 15 girls race, Gwen Gillham, 4th in the under 17 girls race with top ten finishes including Andrew MacAngus 6th under 13 boys and Rona Tytler, 9th under 15 girls.
Also in Edinburgh, in the BUPA Junior road run over 2.5 K, for 11-13 year olds, the girls winner was Alisha Sivell in 8.28 ..
