Kilbarchan AAC Newsletter – September
Presidents’ Chat
Hello and welcome to our lates club newsletter
Our club Annual General Meeting will be held at the ON-X Sports Centre at 7pm on Monday 24th October. This is where we give a review of the year and award some of the club trophies for outstanding success in the past year. We will also propose election of our Trustees for the new year. If you’d like to sit on the Trustee board or perhaps just volunteer to help in the club in some capacity, please contact me.
STOP PRESS: We’ve had some fantastic performances throughout the year, but it was so great to see Callum Hawkins win the Great Scottish Half Marathon run on Sunday 2nd October. Callum has been dogged by injury so it’s great to see him on a road to recovery with a significant win. Not only was Callum the winner but his older brother Derek was third so fantastic for the family. Well done Callum and Derek and father coach Robert Hawkins.

Shout out to young Lewis Hannigan (coach Robert Hawkins) who won the Great Scottish 10km race the same weekend. Unbelievable.

Winters’ Coming
So, with the Autumn and then Winter on us please check if your child coming to training has enough layers. It’s easier to take a layer off during training than shiver throughout the session. Gloves and hats, waterproofs, bright clothing for any road running. Be prepared be safe.
Cross Country Events
Saturday 8th October 2022 – West District Cross Country Relay Championships
The cross-country session starts with shorter relay races. The West District Cross Country Relay Championships takes place at Kings Park in Glasgow (G44 4LR). Teams are organised and entered by the club.

Relays are different in that each athlete runs the same course one after another in a relay. When I used to run them, they always brought the best out in my because I liked to be stronger for the team.
More races are in the Scottish Athletics web site.
Parking is strictly for Officials and Marshalls at King’s Park Secondary School. There is plenty of on street parking in the surrounding residential areas, particularly in the area between St Fillan’s & St Mirin’s Primary schools. Please avoid the tight streets in the Croftfoot area. Please Park responsibly.
Saturday 22nd October 2022 – National Cross Country Relays Championships
Please let your coach know if you want to run in this competition. The club would like as many teams entered as possible.
Coach Susan Devine retires
Coach Susan Devine has decided to hang up her whistle and stopwatch and retire from coaching. Susan started coaching when her daughter Emma trained as a sprinter in the club. Having given 12 years of service to the club we are grateful for all the hours Susan has given in coaching young multi event athletes.
