‘Beatson Banter’ gives sporting fans the priceless opportunity to pose questions to sporting legends and bid for some exclusive memorabilia and ‘The Jarrow Arrow’ Steve Cram CBE is the latest guest to support Scotland’s leading cancer charity.

Steve Cram is one of the UK’s biggest sports personalities and he’ll be under starters order on Thursday 11th March at 8pm to support Beatson Cancer Charity’s virtual fan exclusive Q&A. The fundraiser is a one hour event on Zoom, tickets are £10 and the audience can ask Steve any question.

Steve’s career spans more than three decades and he’s enjoyed stellar success both on and off the track. Many of us will remember him from his competing days alongside Steve Ovett and Sebastien Coe and Steve’s love affair with athletics began when aged 17 he participated in the Commonwealth Games in 1978.

What does it take to have a winning mindset? How do you stay motivated? What’s it like winning gold on the podium? Does he still run?

Does he still speak with Ovett and Coe?

There are many questions fans can pose to Steve as his many achievements include six Gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and the European and World Championships. Following an incredible season in 1983 Steve was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year, one of the few athletes to have won the award, and in 1986 he was awarded an MBE.  At the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles, Steve returned from injury to take a Silver medal in the 1500m behind Sebastian Coe. The following year he broke World records in the 1500m, 2000m and Mile, all within 19 days; the latter lasting almost 9 years.

Now, more than ever, Beatson Cancer charity needs your help, fundraising efforts are strained, and public support is crucial in order to help keep the charity’s services running.

Martin Cawley, Beatson Cancer Charity CEO said: ‘As a result of the COVID 19 crisis, we have had to make significant changes to the way we operate. We are delighted to continue to deliver some fun events digitally.’

“We can still have a positive impact on patient’s lives and support our NHS colleagues at the Beatson. We continue to fund Radiographers and Clinical Nurse Specialists who are working harder than ever to provide enhanced care and support to vulnerable cancer patients. We are doing all we can to continue to help our colleagues at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and continue to fund life-saving research.”

Steve Cram CBE said: “Being able to remain active and healthy is so important for us all, now more than ever.  I’m grateful for my career and being able to continue doing the work I love . I’ve become so aware that many people are displaying an attitude of gratitude and Beatson Cancer Charity need our support to enable them to continue their most important work.

I’m looking forward to stepping up, sharing my experiences and if you or someone you love has been supported by Beatson Cancer Charity, I do hope you can join us.”

“I’m also looking forward to questions from the audience, live interviews are always interesting!”

Beatson Cancer Charity supports people affected by cancer, every step of the way. They provide services, as well as funding specialists, research and education to invest in a better future for cancer patients and their families.
