Callum Hawkins was the star at the Scottish Cross Country Relay Championships at Cumbernauld last Saturday. Callum, representing Kilbarchan Athletic Club, ran the fastest time of the day over the hilly 4k circuit, 11 minutes 1 second. The Kilbarchan team which also included Ewan McKerral, Callum Matthews and Scott MacAulay, finished 8th overall behind winners Central AC, time 49.54. Edinburgh University were 2nd, their team including Kilbarchan athlete Euan Gillham.
The Kilbarchan over 50s team had a fine run to finish 3rd in their category, their team led by former Scottish champion Cross Country Champion Robert Quinn, with good support from Robert McCulloch and Donald Petrie.
The Kilbarchan Women’s team of Christina Rankin, Elspeth Curran, Laura Stark and Jemma Reekie, just missed the medal positions, finishing 4th in 57.43 and the club showed their strength with their B team of Sarah Dempsey, Iona Miller, Kerry MacAngus and Elaine Eadie, also prominent, finishing 10th, and their C team of Sharon Hastie, Holly Thompson, Caroline Cochran and Chloe Simpson 22nd, out of 70 starting teams.
Jemma Reekie and Laura Stark were 2nd and 3rd fastest under 20s in the race.
The Kilbarchan girls team of Rachel Muir, Alisha Sivell and Rona Tytler, finishing 8th and from their competing teams, in the under 13s category, the club having 3 in the top 15, Rachel, Louise Hastie and Aurelia Tiffoney, from 99 starting teams.
Kilbarchan boys team of Ross Hastie, David McNair and Andrew MacAngus, were 14th.
Top 6 runners in their events, included Alisha Sivell under 15 girls, David McNair under 15 boys, Andrew MacAngus under 17 boys.
