Derek Hawkins continued his preparations for the Commonwealth Games Marathon, running in the Sunderland ½ marathon last weekend,.
The Elderslie athlete has had some injury problems over the winter but looked to have overcome these with a solid performance, finishing 2nd in 65 minutes 47 seconds.
Elsewhere at the weekend, the first meeting of the Scottish Young Athletes League took place at Grangemouth Stadium.There were some good performances by Kilbarchan athletes including wins in the under 17s category for Victoria Cleer (80m Hurdles), Jemma Reekie (800m) and Cameron Dickson (1500m).
Earlier in the week, the Open Graded Meeting at Linwood produced some good results, despite the miserable weather. In the under 13 girls 100m, there were Personal Bests for Mackenzi Cunningham 14.41 and for Rachel Shaw 14.42, also for Eilidh Gibson in the 800m (2.33.55). In the boys 800m, Andrew MacAngus and Ross Wallace (under 15) were timed at 2.20.85 and 2.22.71 and Tom Murray (under 17) 2.03.06, all PBs. In the Hammer, there were some good performances by Heather Fawcett (u15) with a 39.39m throw and by Andrew Costello (u15) with 45.07m.
