A report on David McNair’s day taking part in the Club Connect relays at the Emirates Arena as part of the Glasgow International Match on 25th January 2014.

Being asked to run the emirates on such an important day was amazing. When we arrived there, I was a bit nervous as I didn’t know that much about it and I didn’t realise there was so many people and famous athletes that I watch on TV. I arrived too early and had to wait for quite a while. As we were waiting Colin Jackson and Denise Lewis passed by, I was lucky as they stopped an autographed my programme.

We were given passes which allowed us into restricted areas which made me feel quite famous. When we were brought into the warm up area all the clubs running were brought into the middle of the hall. We were then spoke to by one of the organisers as he was talking I looked around to find that there was people who had competed at the Olympic games running around the hall I was a bit shocked by the whole thing. We put our stuff down and headed to do a warm up it was quite amazing. I was pretty lucky as Tiffany Porter came over and talked to me.

I was pretty impressed by the whole thing. As I walked onto the track out I could hear all the people shouting and screaming, it was amazing to see all these people watching us. As we were watching the girls’race, I heard the announcer saying that there was 5000 people there which made me even more nervous. Before I knew it our race had started I was very excited waited for the baton coming once I had it I ran as fast as I could. It felt amazing.

The experience was amazing and I loved every bit of it.
