Callum Hawkins continued the remarkable Hawkins family tradition when he won the Scottish Cross Country Championship at CallendarPark, Falkirk last Saturday. The 21 year old from Elderslie, led from the start over the 3 laps of 4 kilometres, finishing almost 1 minute clear, in 37 minutes 41 seconds. This was Callum’s first National Senior Cross Country title though he had previously won at younger age group levels, and it followed on brother Derek, who won the title in 2011 and 2012. And other brother Scott and father Robert had all won Scottish titles at junior level.

Callum, already a British under 23 Cross Country International, is now targeting a place in the Scottish team for the Commonwealth Games, probably 10,000m.

Kilbarchan Senior women did well to win team medals when the quartet of Elspeth Curran, Natalie Sharp, Christina Rankin and Cara Sloss took team Bronze.

Kilbarchan under 17 boys team were impressive in winning Gold team medals with track specialist Gavin McArdle taking 2nd place ahead of teammate Euan Gillham, well supported by Euan Trout and Ewan McKerral.

For the girls, Laura Stark was 3rd in the under 15 girls race, where the team including Natalie Moran, Emma Fulton and Katie McGinn just missed Bronze by 1 point. Gwen Gillham just missed individual Bronze, with 4th place for the under 17 girls.

Under 13 boys won Bronze team medals with a fine 5th place for Cameron Corrigan  supported by Craig Kennedy, Andrew MacAngus and Jordan Gilchrist while under 15 boys were 4th team, Aidan Comerford, Conor Thomson, Josh Hendry and Sam McNair.. Under 13 girls team of Eilidh Gibson, Leona Murray and Bethany Craig were 5th.
