2018 has been another year of outstanding success for Scotland’s athletes on the international stage from the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast to the European Championships in Berlin and beyond. The sport domestically continues to grow and go from strength to strength.

We have made a few adjustments to the Inter Club Championships this year with the introduction of the Event Specific Series. Clubs have been split by membership size into three categories – Category A for the largest clubs, down to C for the smaller clubs. The championship has also been extended to include various event specific events and Open Graded Meetings in addition to all scottishathletics championships including for the first time Combined Events.

An athletes best 3 scores, calculated from the SATS performance tables have been included in the club totals. This has resulted in 2046 athletes from 97 affiliated clubs recording 7101 performances. A true reflection that every performance counts.

National Cross Country Relays 2018

For the 3rd week in a row the endurance athletes from the club were out in large numbers. This time in the winter sun of Cumbernauld for the National XC relays.

First off were the young females followed by the young males. Both these races are run over 3 legs with an U13 in leg 1, followed by U15 and U17 in legs 2 and 3.

The girls A team of Sarah Lyle, Louise Hastie and Alisha Sivell coming in strongly in 5th. The boys team of Matthew New, Lewis Anderson and Jack Patton coming in strongly with Jack posting one of the fastest junior times of the day.

The other teams had individually strong performances within their own age groups.

Next up were the Senior ladies with high hopes of a medal. Chloe Simpson running leg 1 followed by strong runs by Kerry MacAngus and Christia Rankin brought the team to fourth position with one leg to run. Elspeth Curran ran an outstanding leg, posting one of the fastest ladies times of the day to bring the team into the bronze position!

Our Masters ladies team of Sharon Hastie, Joanne McDowall and Sandra Houldsworth ran well and look to have come in 5th position in the masters competition.

Last to run were the senior men. With a bronze in the recent West districts they were keen to improve. Youngest in the team Cameron Wright gave the team and excellent start with a fine run to hand over to Callum Matthews in fourth position with strong runs for both Connor Maclean, at his first Nationals in a Kilbarchan vest and Euan Gillham the team finished in silver behind a very experienced Central team.

Results have been posted on Scottish Athletics website however we are aware there are some issues and are awaiting confirmation of final postitions
