Press Release

Jemma Reekie confirmed her place in the British team for the European Championships in Berlin next month with a superb run in the Mile race at the Muller Anniversary Games on Sunday.

Jemma had finished in second place in the 1500m at the British Trials in Birmingham on July 1 but she still had to achieve the European qualifying time of 4minutes 7seconds, in order for selection to be confirmed.

The former Celtic Games Scotland captain had raced four times in the previous week, looking to achieve the time, a huge effort which included a London-France-Ireland-London schedule and on Sunday, Jemma was racing in the Millicent Fawcett Anniversary Mile with a special 1500m split set-up on the London Stadium track.

And Jemma achieved her target, her 1500m split of 4.06.11 was inside the 4.07 European standard she had been chasing. A fantastic effort.

Her Mile time of 4.27.16, was also a PB and Kilbarchan club record.
