It was another world class run by Callum Hawkins, in the New York ½ marathon at the weekend. The 24 year old from Elderslie, 9th in last year’s Olympic Marathon, finished 2nd, just 4 seconds behind Olympic Marathon Silver medallist Feyisa Lelesa (Ethiopia). Winning time was 60 minutes 4 seconds.More locally, Kilbarchan Athletic Club had a large entry at the Alloa ½ marathon where Gemma Rankin had a fine run, finishing 2nd Lady in 78.20, with Euan Carrick next local runner in 80.14.
And at the National Junior Road Race Championships at Battery Park, Greenock, there were no individual successes for Kilbarchan Athletic Club but there were some fine team performances. The under 17 boys team of Andrew MacAngus 5th, Craig Kennedy 9th and Craig Simson 11th, won Gold and there were Silver medals for the under 13 girls team of Louise Hastie 8th, Aurelia Tiffoney 10th and Rachel Muir 12th and Bronze for the under 15 girls team of Laine Alemu 13th, Eilidh Gibson 18th and Libby Sutherland 19th.
Other athletes competed in park runs and at the Pollock Park run, Robert Quinn was first to finish (16.56) with Elaine Eadie first Lady (20.17).
