It was a stunning performance by Callum Hawkins in Japan at the weekend.
Having just had his Glasgow ½ marathon record nullified because of a wrongly measured distance, the Kilbarchan athlete well and truly smashed the Scottish record on Sunday, clocking 60:00 at the Kagawa Marugame International Half Marathon.
This time puts Hawkins 2nd on the British all-time list just behind Mo Farah.
This was a remarkable performance ; beating a truly world class field, finishing 58 seconds ahead of Ethiopian record-holder second placed Atsedu Tsegay.
The Renfrewshire Road Race Champs at Greenock at the weekend produced some fine performances by local athletes. Kilbarchan’s Gemma Rankin won the Women’s 5 mile race, time 28.06 and Kilbarchan won the team race with Gemma well supported by Elspeth Curran 3rd and Elaine Eadie 8th , with Chloe Simpson first under 20 athlete. Other Kilbarchan winners included Louise Hastie under 13 girls and Andrew MacAngus under 17 men, Andrew well supported by Craig Kennedy and Cameron Corrigan, 2nd and 3rd, to win the Team award.
