Callum Hawkins came so close to winning the International Cross Country race at Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park last Saturday, just losing out by a second, to USA’s Leonard Korir, whose winning time for the 8K race was 24 minutes 3 seconds. A world class run by Callum against top quality opposition which included Sir Mo Farah who was 7th in 24.49.
There were some other fine performances by Kilbarchan athletes in the associated Scottish Inter districts Championship events which included top athletes from East, West and North Scottish districts.
David McNair was 2nd in the under 15 boys race, time 13 minutes 37 seconds, with team mates Jack Patton 13th and Lewis Patton 15th. Also a fine run by Alisha Sivell 4th in the under 15 girls race in 15.05 while Rachel Muir was 6th in 11.56 and Louise Hastie 9th in 11.59, in the under 13 girls event. For the under 17 girls, Rona Tytler was 17th and Kim Crawford 28th and for the under 17 boys, Andrew MacAngus was 22nd and Craig Kennedy 25th.
In the Senior Women’s race, Sarah Dempsey was 7th in 23.29, with Elspeth Curran 17th, 23.59.
Also, in the associated Junior 2.5K Road Run, Aurelia Tiffoney was 3rd in 9.24.
