Event: Scottish Athletics West District Cross Country Championships

A successful days racing at Mosshill industrial estate as clear blue sunny skies met the runners on an increasingly boggy course as the day progressed.

Vehicles travelling south towards Ayr on the A77 – on reaching Ayr, remain on the A77 southbound.

At the third roundabout (Bankfield), take the first exit (signed for Ayr Hospital, A713 Dalmellington/Castle Douglas).

Follow this road for approximately 1 mile (passing the entrance to Ayr Hospital). The venue is on the left.

*IMPORTANT* Officials and vehicles carrying club tents should take the first entrance into the venue, and all other vehicles should take the second entrance.


Parking for 500 cars/buses is accessed via the second entrance into the venue.

It is a short walk to the course which will be signposted.

Club Tents

There is a dedicated area for club tents near the Start/Finish area.

Declarations open at 10am in the Reception area of the main office building directly across from the Start/Finish area.

Team Managers only please!

IMPORTANT: Entered athletes must NOT be substituted by non-entered athletes.

Please raise any entry queries promptly with the Declaration Officials.

Changing and Toilets

*Spikes and muddy shoes must be removed before entering the building*

Within the main office building, changing space is available to the right of the Declaration area.

There are toilets available in the Declaration area and also in the changing space.

There are no showers, so prepare and pack accordingly.

Belongings are left at owner’s risk. Valuables should not be left unattended.


All athletes should familiarise themselves with the appropriate race route and it is their responsibility to follow it accurately. Maps will be displayed at the venue and on the Scottish Athletics website.

In the U17/U20 Men race, U17 men run 6400m and U20 men 8000m. Athletes must run the correct race route for their age group and pay attention to direction guidance from the race marshals.

The course is over open ground and is generally good running, although weather conditions on the day and in the preceding week will determine the underfoot conditions. It may be frozen hard or it may be muddy/slippery, and it may be windy and cold. Athletes should carefully consider the most appropriate footwear choice for the course, plus dress according to the weather conditions. It is advisable to walk the course beforehand to check footwear/clothing choices are appropriate. Athletes should familiarise themselves with the race route/conditions beforehand, and run accordingly.img_7317

U13 Girls 11.30am 3200m

U13 Boys 11.45am 3200m

U15 Girls 12 noon 4000m

U15 Boys 12.20pm 4000m

U17/U20 Women 12.40pm 5000m

Senior/Masters Women 1pm 6400m

U17/U20 Men 1.30pm U17 = 6400m, U20 = 8000m

Senior/Masters Men 2pm 10,000m


Individual medals: 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category (U13, U15, U17, U20, Senior, Master 40+), plus 1st only Master 50+.

Team medals: 1st, 2nd and 3rd with 3 to count, except Senior Men (6 to count) and Senior Women (4 to count), plus 1st only Masters Team (3 to count).

The Senior, Masters 40+ and Masters 50+ races are combined for each gender.

All athletes may count in the Senior Championship race (individual and team) as well as their own age category, therefore a Masters’ athlete can count in both the Senior AND Masters individual and team races. However, a Masters athlete cannot compete in both the 40+ and 50+ individual championships; only their own age category.

In scoring the Masters team placings, only Masters athletes are considered.


Medals will be presented near the Start/Finish area as soon as possible after each race, or inside the Reception area depending on the weather. Note that there can sometimes be delays in processing/calculating results so please be patient and respectful of the work that the volunteers are doing. Medals can be posted on if necessary.

Provisional results will be posted on the Scottish Athletics website; please promptly contact the Scottish Athletics Events team with any queries/errors.

First Aid

First Aid will be located near the Start/Finish area.


There will be mobile catering vehicles situated near the Start/Finish area.


On the day, queries about the race should be directed to the Referee or Chief Timekeeper.

Please do not interrupt the Results Team, or Officials at the finish line.
