It was a Scottish 1-2 at Liverpool’s Sefton Park last Saturday where Callum Hawkins finished a close second behind fellow Olympian Andrew Butchart from Central AC.. Callum’s time 28 minutes 45 seconds for the 10K course.

The race was the final trial for the European Cross Country Championships and the 2 Scots will now lead the GB team in Sardinia next month.

The Liverpool meeting attracts huge numbers from all around the UK and Kilbarchan Athletic Club had a number of other athletes competing in the various age group events, against Britain’s best.

Top twenty places included Laura Stark under 20 women 9th, David McNair under 15 boys 11th,  Alisha Sivell under 15 girls 19th, while in the youngest age group race for under 11 boys, Oliver Patton medalled, finishing 2nd ..

This coming Sunday, the West District Cross Country Championships are at Ayr with the extra incentive of the top runners being selected to represent the West at the Inter District Championships in Edinburgh, early January.
