Callum Hawkins produced a truly world class performance to win the Great Scottish Run ½ marathon in Glasgow on Sunday. The 24 year old from Elderslie’s winning time of 60 minutes 24 seconds broke Allister Hutton’s Scottish ½ marathon record set in 1987 and also beats the course record of 61:09 set by Haile Gebreselasie in 2013 and ranks him 2nd in Britain behind Mo Farah.Gemma Rankin was 10th in an International class Womens field, 3rd in the associated Scottish Championship, her time 75 minutes 18 seconds, just 3 seconds outside her best, while Robert McCulloch was well placed in the over 50s category, time 80.30.

Kilbarchan Athletic Club had over 40 runners taking part in the various Scottish Run races at the weekend and notably 17 year old Laura Stark in her first 10K, was 7th in the Womens race, time 36.17, while Sam McNair, also 17, was 32nd in the Mens race, time 35.04.

In the Junior 3K races, David McNair was 4th n the 12-15 age group, time 8.47 with Jack Patton 10th in 9.12 while Jack’s young brother Oliver, was 4th in the 9-11 age group, time 10.15. Alisha Sivell was best placed for the girls finishing 8th in 10.02.
