Kilbarchan Athletic Club had several winners at the West District Championships at Kilmarnock last weekend.

The meeting go under way with Martin Lipton winning the 400 metres Hurdles in a brisk 52.84 seconds. Also in the Senior events, Anthony Young won the 200m in 22.75 seconds and then went on to win the 400metres in 48.75s. There was also a double for Sam O’Kane, who won the Shot followed by the Discus with a 32.57m throw. Callum Matthews won his first title as a Senior, taking the 1500m title in 4.03.95 and Laura Stark did likewise winning the Women’s 1500m in 4.36.11. Other Senior winners included Andrew Murphy who won the Pole Vault clearing 4.30m.

Ellie Fulton was the outstanding performer in the under 20s category, winning three Golds.  Ellie won the High Jump clearing 1.61m, the 100 metres Hurdles in 15.69 seconds and the Javelin with 36.87m. Shona Ross won the Triple Jump clearing 10.71m and Mia Shepherd won the Hammer with 39.77m. In the under 17s age groups, the hammer throwers were on form with Heather Fawcett winning the Girls competition with 50.18m, and Andrew Costello taking the Boys title with a 55.20m throw. There was also success for Michael Cairns who won the sprint Hurdles in 15.47s.

Kirsty Costello was another Hammer throw winner, taking the under 15 girls title with 48.51m and Kirsty went on to complete a double, winning the Javelin with a 31.94m throw.

Other medallists included Blair Crawford 400m 3rd; Jack Lochans High Jump 3rd; Erin Campbell 3rd under 20 women’s 100m Hurdles; Alexander Watters 3rd the under 17s 100m and 100m Hurdles; Conor Thomson under 20s Steeplechase 3rd; Michael Cairns 3rd under 17s 400m Hurdles; Mackenzi Cunningham 3rd under 15 girls 200m.

Elsewhere, Jemma Reekie competed at the British Milers Club meeting in Manchester, setting a Kilbarchan under 20s 1500m record of 4 minutes 27.69sec.
