Callendar Park, Falkirk, was the venue for the Scottish Cross Country Championships last Saturday with several hundred competing in the different races over a hilly course, with sunshine making it quite a spectacular event. Local interest was focussed on the fortunes of Kilbarchan Athletic Club and there were some very good results.
Euan Gillham was 2nd in the under 20 Men’s race over 8K, his time 27 minutes 35 seconds and finishing just 100 metres behind Inverclyde’s Jonny Glen. Kilbarchan won the team race with Euan getting good backing from Callum Matthews, Scott McLardie and Euan Trout.
The Kilbarchan under 15 boys, despite missing out on individual medals, packed really well as a team to win Gold, the counting quartet being Michael Simson 5, Andrew MacAngus 6, Craig Kennedy 7 and David McNair8, a great team effort from over 150 starters.
Laura Stark was 3rd in the under 17 girls race, her time 18.40 and maintaining her remarkable record of winning medals in major events. The team won Silver medals with Laura well supported by Iona Miller and Rona Tytler.
Other top ten finishers included Sarah Dempsey, 6th in the under 20s girls race while Leona Murray was 6th for the under 15 girls and Jack Patton was 9th in the under 13 boys race.
Elsewhere, Jemma Reekie competed in the UK Indoor Championships at Sheffield where she broke the Kilbarchan club under 20 girls 1500metres record with a time of 4.32.57.
