Gemma Rankin, continued her recent fine form when she won the Edinburgh ½ marathon last weekend. Gemma, who just 2 weeks earlier had won the Glasgow 10K, won the Womens race in the good time of 77 minutes 21 seconds, finishing 300 metres ahead of her nearest rival. Robin Scott was 2nd in the M70 category, time 93.42
Best placed Kilbarchan athlete in the Marathon, was Euan Carrick, time 3-10-57
The Edinburgh Marathon festival also included events for young athletes and Alisha Sivell won the girls 2K race in 7 minutes 9 seconds, finishing just behind the first boy.
Also at the weekend, the Youth Development League meeting was at Kilmarnock where the wind made it difficult for the athletes though there were still some good performances.
Winners included Kirsty Costello under 13 girls Javelin in a Personal Best 28.83m; for the under 15 girls Eilidh Gibson 1500m in a PB of 4.58.46, Leona Murray 800m in a PB of 2.24.14; for the under 15 boys Craig Kennedy in 4.33.83; for the under 17 boys, Conor Thomson 1500m a PB of 4.19.33; and the under 17 girls continued their winning form in the 4x100m relay, Stephanie Lamb, Zara Craig, Dalia Stewart and Erin Campbell, time 52.65s.
Also at the weekend, athletes representing Scottish Universities and Colleges in Belfast where Jemma Reekie won a tactical 800m in 2.17.59 and Remi Caudoux won the Javelin with a throw mwasured at 59.75m. Also notable, Andrew Murphy’s 4.50m Pole Vault and Sam O’Kane’s 12.53m Shot.
