Gemma Rankin won the Morrisons Great Women’s 10K in Glasgow last Sunday in a time of 35 minutes 31 seconds. Gemma, from Paisley, dominated from the start, finishing over 1 minute ahead of Gillian Palmer from Edinburgh AC and she had good support from a large number of her fellow Kilbarchan club athletes including Katie Hall who was 22nd and 2nd under 20 athlete.

Two Kilbarchan athletes were official pacers, Jennifer Rooney for those whose target was 45 minutes and Sandra Houldsworth, who had run the Whangie Whizz Hill Race the previous Wednesday, was pacemaker for those with a target of around 50 minutes.

Around 8000 runners took part, creating a colourful spectacle around the Bellahouston area.

Not far from Bellahouston Park, the Monklands ½ Marathon took place, with Julia Harris 2nd in the Women’s event in a time of 96.43.

This coming weekend, the West District Track and Field Championships are at Kilmarnock.
