Local athletes have been busy recently, competing in various parts of the country.

The Hawkins brothers were in action at the Great Edinburgh Festival of Running  last weekend, competing in the 10mile relay event, where they finished 2nd, in a speedy 48 minutes 37 seconds.

Also at the Edinburgh event, a good effort by a possible star of the future, with Lewis Hannigan 2nd in the under 11 boys race, his time 9.26.

Two Kilbarchan club records for the Javelin were broken at the recent Scottish Athletics Throws Grand Prix at Livingston. Ellie Fulton had a fine effort, measured at 40.89m in the under 17 girls event and in the under 13 girls competition, Kirsty Costello threw an impressive 28.95m.

Team Glasgow competed at Sheffield in the UK Development League Northern Premier Division and Kilbarchan athletes made some major contributions to the team. Shona Ross won the under 20s Triple Jump, clearing 10.83m and Mia Shepherd won the under 20s Hammer with a throw of 37.93m.

Ellie Fulton had a very successful day, winning the under 17s Javelin with 37.78m and was 2nd in the Shot with 11.70m, also 2nd in the Discus with 23.02m while Bobby Crossan was 2nd in the under 17 mens Javelin, throwing 45.06m.

Erin Campbell won the 80metres Hurdles B race in the under 17s age group and also the 300metres Hurdles B race.
