The Scottish Indoor 3000m Championships were staged at the Emirates at the weekend with a number of successes for Kilbarchan Athletic Club athletes.
Gavin McArdle won the under 20s event, time 8 minutes 30.62 seconds and Andrew MacAngus won the under 15s title, time 9.37.62, both times personal bests, while Laura Stark was 3rd in the under 17 girls race.
On Hogmanay, the last of the Kilbarchan club’s series of Festive races, the Donald Crawford Cup 11mile Handicap race, was staged round the hilly roads towards Lochwinnoch and round by Bridge of Weir, finishing in Kilbarchan park. Because of injury, Elspeth Curran has missed most early winter events, but Elspeth showed that she is well on the road to recovery, coming through the field and catching veteran Robin Scott in the last mile, to win the Cup in a time of 67 minutes 52 seconds, a club Ladies record.
Elsewhere, there was a small turnout for the Beith Harriers road races, with wins for Kilbarchan girls under 11s Aurelia Tiffoney, under 13s Eilidh Gibson, under 17s Jemma Reekie.
This weekend, the Scottish Interdistrict Cross Country Championships are at Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park with various age group races supporting International events.
