Callum Hawkins was in top form at Liverpool’s Sefton Park Cross Country meeting last Saturday, the event doubling as the British team trial for the European Cross Country Championships.
The 22year old from Elderslie had one of the best wins of his career, winning the Men’s race in a time of 29 minutes 26 seconds and he will now lead the GB team for the European Championships to be held in Bulgaria in 2 weeks time.
Kilbarchan Athletic Club also had a number of young athletes at Liverpool, competing in fields of well over 100 runners, including many of Britain’s best and there were some very good performances.
Laura Stark was 4th, top Scot, in the under 17 girls race, her time 15.56 and Jack Patton was 9th in the under 13 boys race. Euan Gillham was 12th, 2nd Scot, in the under 20 mens race; Eilidh Gibson and Leona Murray were 12th and 13th for the under 13 girls and Andrew MacAngus 18th for the under 15 boys.
This weekend, on Saturday, the Lindsay’s West District Cross Country Championships are being staged at Linwood, and the Kilbarchan club will be looking for some individual and team successes in the various events.
