The November sun shone brightly on a soggy Bellahouston Park as the National Cross Country Short Course championships took place this afternoon.

The first Kilbarchan appearances took place in the Under 15 boys event where Andrew MacAngus (5th), Josh Hendry (9th) & Craig Kennedy (16th) picked up team bronze.
Michael Simson finished just behind Craig in 17th in 6:55 while James Toal finished 35th in a time of 7:12.

This was quickly followed by the Under 17 women’s race in which Laura Stark led all the way to take the gold medal in a time of 10:38.

Next up the Senior Women all did well in a strong field, Natalie Sharp was the fastest for Kilbarchan finishing 13th, Christina Rankin (27th), Sarah Dempsey (32nd) & Jennifer Rooney (72nd).

The final race of the afternoon was the Senior/Junior men over 4k.  Under 20 athletes were the stars in this one as Euan Gillham collected gold in a time of 12:30 just four seconds ahead of silver medalist Gavin McArdle 12:34. Callum Matthews (19th) finished in 13:44 and Declan MacAskill (40th) 17:38.
