Gemma Rankin showed good form at the Great North run 1/2 marathon last Sunday, finishing 13th overall, 2nd Scot in an International class Women’s race. Gemma’s time of 77 minutes 4 seconds, was close to her best was close to her best and good preparation for her running in the Dublin Marathon next month.
Ultra runners were also in action at the weekend and Steven Hill was 3rd male in the Glenmore 12 hour race, the Kilbarchan Harrier covering an impressive 64.37 miles.
After the recent Scottish team trial at Aberfoyle, two Kilbarchan young athletes have been selected for the Scottish under 16s team for the Home International Hill Race Championships in Dublin in two weeks time. The team of 4 includes Laura Stark, who won the Trial, which also confirmed her as winner of the Junior Hill running League and Rona Tytler, 4th in the Trial, also wins selection.
The summer track season finishes this week, with Kilbarchan Athletic Club Championships at Linwood and on Sunday, several local runners will be competing at the Kilmacolm Festival of running which includes 3K, 10K and 1/2 marathon events.
